Paediatrics

The Paediatrics Ward admits patients from newborn to 12 years old.  The ward has a total of 12 beds and provides a wide variety of medical, pre and post operative, renal, dentistry, orthopaedic, burns, ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat), immunization, HIV, TB, meningitis, including social cases of sexual abuse, social abandonment and neglect.

Complexity of Care

The Paediatric Ward consists of dedicated individuals committed to providing continuous care to meet their patient’s needs.  The team includes the Consulting Physician, Registered Nurses, Trained Clinical Nurses and Nursing Auxiliaries.

Patient Assessment

The Medical and Surgical Physicians assess the patients during rounds and prn (nursing) assessment is done at the beginning of each shift or prn based on the acuity level of the patient.  Daily consultation is carried out among Physicians, Nurses and other healthcare staff to plan and manage the patient’s care.

Standards

The standard of nursing practice governs the policies of the Paediatrics Ward.  Further policies formulated by the Medical staff are also applied to the specific needs and resources of the Ward.

Support Services

Clinical support services are available 24 hours per day, seven days per week.  This includes all Allied Health and support staffing, e.g. Radiology, Laboratory, Pharmacy, Materials Management, Food Services, Housekeeping, etc.

Patient Care Needs

Patients requiring specialized care, medical and nursing intervention are made available by existing staff.  Staff also proved the family members with support, ensuring they are informed and accommodated.
