Ophthalmology has serviced our community for six years since our grand opening on May 3, 2000. We continue to provide care for all patients with medical diseases such as glaucomas, cataracts, diabetes, and hypertensive retinopathy, pterygiums, chalazions, traumas, and blind persons. Special care is also given to school children with visual problems.
The mission of all Ophthalmic Nurses in Opthalmology Department is to foster excellence in ophtalmic patient care and to support the ophthalmic team through individual developments, education and evidence based practice.
Clinic is open to the general public from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Each week clinics are held at Davies House, Nansen Avenue, Freeport, Grand Bahama and at Eight Mile Rock Clinic, Queens Highway, Eight Mile Rock. At Davies House clinics are held on Monday thru Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. At Eight Mile Rock Clinic clinics are held on Monday 12:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m.
On Thursdays at Davies House, visual fields testing and sonograms are done. Fridays are surgery days and Staff Clinic is at 2:00 p.m. Upon registration, a fee of $15.00 is paid to the Clerk. School children are exempted.
All patients are met by the Clerk or Nurse when entering the department. All patients are interviewed by the Nursing personnel and preliminary testing is done prior to being seen by the Doctor.
Appointments and referrals are processed at the registration window by the Clerk. Further enquiries may be addressed by calling
